Pampadum Shola is nearly 35 Km from Munnar town (1.5 Hours drive from Munnar through Mattupetty Dam -Echo point- Kundala Dam). Here you may Enjoy misty and cloudy climate throughout the year, months from April to September have a pleasant climate and is the most popular time for tourism in this area. The name´"Pampadum Shola" means, "the forest where the snake dances", it’s derived from the Malayalam language. The fauna includes several threatened, rare or endemic species. The species Parantica nilgiriensis ( "The Nilgiri tiger" , is a butterfly ) which is restricted to some hills of South India and listed as threatened by IUCN was recorded to be highly abundant in the area. The keystone species here is the highly mysterious and endangered, endemic small carnivore - the Nilgiri Marten, Leopards, and Indian wild dogs are sometimes sighted at dusk or dawn, tigers are an important animal of the park. The other animals found in the Park are elephants, gaur, wild boar, sambar deer, and common langur. There are about 14 species of birds, 9 species of mammals, 100 species of butterflies and 93 species of moths recorded from the Shola.
